Makei spoke about the topic of the upcoming talks between Lukashenka and Putin

The security situation, issues of trade and economic cooperation and sanctions, believes Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, may be on the agenda of the next meeting of the leaders of the Union State. The minister announced this on February 16 at a press conference in Minsk, explaining that Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko traditionally "can discuss a variety of issues on a wide range of topics," BelTA informs.

Earlier, the Kremlin reported that the presidents of Russia and Belarus would hold talks by the end of the week.

Explaining his country's position on European security issues, Makei recalled that Belarus categorically opposes NATO expansion. "Those promises that were given to Gorbachev have been violated by Western partners. As a result, we have the situation we have when no one trusts each other," the foreign minister stated with regret.

The Minister also believes that there is a need to organize a full-scale meeting of heads of state within the framework of the OSCE. "Despite the fact that Western politicians met with President Vladimir Putin, made appropriate statements during press conferences, despite the constant statements from Moscow and Minsk that no one poses any threat to neighboring states, speculation about a possible Russian aggression continues," he said.

And as a result, according to him, the lack of trust between the parties leads to the fact that the situation cannot normalize. In this regard, he recalled the initiative of the Belarusian leader, who proposed organizing a large-scale international dialogue "Helsinki-2". "We have always been in favor of dialogue. We believe that only through dialogue can all issues be resolved," Makei summed up.
