The US State Department commented on Putin's words about the genocide in the Donbass

The US State Department does not agree with the assessments of representatives of the Russian leadership about the "genocide" in the Donbass. This was stated during a regular briefing by the official representative of the US Foreign Ministry, Ned Price.

“We are particularly concerned about statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Russian officials about the “genocide” in the Donbass. Allegations about this are devoid of any grounds,” he said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he considers what is happening in the Donbass to be genocide.

The armed conflict in the east of Ukraine began in 2014, when the inhabitants of Donbass did not recognize the new government after the coup. In 2015, the leaders of the Normandy Four agreed on measures to implement the Minsk agreements of September 19, 2014. Ukraine adopted a law on the special status of Donbass in 2014, but it has not yet entered into force.
