Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that the republic and Russia have reviewed plans for cooperation in the military sphere and agreed to increase it to protect peace and sovereignty in the South American country. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We have revised military cooperation (with Russia) and approved the direction for powerful military cooperation between the Russian Federation and Venezuela to protect peace, sovereignty, protect territorial integrity,” Maduro stressed.

Earlier, he said that Venezuela and Russia signed 12 documents on cooperation in various fields. According to the Venezuelan leader, the two sides also signed 12 documents on cooperation in energy, financial, military, healthcare and food, medicine and vaccines for the Bolivarian Republic. This happened during a meeting of a high-level intergovernmental commission in the Venezuelan capital.

Prior to this, Maduro said that the country's "true friends" are currently the Russian Federation, China, Iran and Cuba, since they provide constant assistance to the republic.
