In the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, they said that the Ukrainian army fired on areas of nine settlements of the republics for two hours on February 17. This was reported by TASS with reference to the representative offices of the DPR and LPR in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the ceasefire regime.

“In just over two hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shelled the areas of nine settlements in the DPR and LPR. About 160 munitions with a caliber of more than 12.7 mm were fired,” the report says.

The shelling was carried out from 05.32 to 07.42 (coincides with Moscow time), the areas of the settlements of Kominternovo, Oktyabr, Novolaspa, Petrovskoye in the DPR, as well as Veselenkoe, Donetsk, Zolote-5, Nizhnee Lozovoe, Sokolniki in the LPR were exposed to them.

According to the self-proclaimed republics, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used mortars of 120 mm and 82 mm caliber (67 mines in total), grenade launchers of various types (90 rounds of ammunition), small arms, including large-caliber ones.

Also, the People's Militia of the LPR stated that the situation on the line of contact had deteriorated significantly over the past day.

Prior to this, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Mikhail Popov said that with the current concentration of Ukrainian troops on the border of Donbass, an accidental shot would be enough to flare up an armed conflict with renewed vigor.

In turn, the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, said that Ukraine was preparing with might and main for an attack on the Donbass.
