Russia - Why the demand for specialists with knowledge of Chinese is growing in the Far Eastern Federal District

Russia (bbabo.net), - Top-5 Russian regions where specialists with knowledge of the Chinese language can easily find work include two Far Eastern regions - Primorye and Amur Region. Such data was published by researchers from hh.ru, having studied the Russian job market over the past year.

Back to news content And last year, interest began to gradually return, and the difference in the number of vacancies compared to pre-pandemic 2019 was only 17 percent.

The Chinese language may be needed by specialists in various fields. Solid corporations from the Celestial Empire show interest in the Far East. In priority development areas, the creation of joint ventures, including with Chinese capital, is encouraged. They often employ foreigners. Translators are needed as a link between the management team, Russian and foreign employees. Managers with knowledge of Chinese are also required.

For example, now there are about 150 employment options from Far Eastern employers for specialists with knowledge of the Chinese language on the job search site. The salary can reach 100 thousand rubles and more.

Predestination

The Amur region is destined to interact with China purely geographically - a very long border with a neighboring state. There are many infrastructure projects in the region related to the PRC, including a cross-border cable car and a bridge across the Amur.

Chinese is gaining popularity: a few years ago, in the Far East, they even began to pass the exam in this language.

When the borders reopen, the Far East will need a lot of Chinese-speaking guides

- Every year we receive applications from educational institutions of the region: give teachers, - said the head of the department for international cooperation and public relations of the Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University, director of the Confucius Institute Nikolai Kukharenko. - The problem is that schools often cannot offer specialists decent pay and living conditions. Our graduates easily find jobs either in Russian-Chinese joint ventures or leave for Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Krasnodar. And they are willing to work there. Amur residents work, for example, at the Higher School of Economics, State University, the Russian University of Management, MGIMO.

There is no special language

Jobs often focus on what kind of Chinese language is required - for example, "geological" or "economic".

Nikolai Kukharenko believes that a good specialist can find himself in any field. For example, there is no special "Chinese geological" language, "Chinese economic", "Chinese customs". Of course, in higher education institutions, senior students are given separate programs on specific vocabulary. But this is just vocabulary, which is "strung" on the base available to the specialist.

- About 15-16 years ago I myself went with the British to a gold mine and translated all the technology to them - "placer gold", "tailings", "alluvium", - Kukharenko shared his memories. - Previously, I pushed this vocabulary into myself for two days. A specialist who speaks the language simply loaded a "punched card" into his brain - and went to translate. You don't have to be a geologist to do this. Higher education is higher because the specialist is more competent than just a school graduate.

Frozen tourism

Before the borders were closed, the need for sinologists was huge in the Amur region. Due to the pandemic, a whole layer of the tourism industry is now frozen. When the borders reopen, the Far East will need a lot of guides. According to modern legislation, a tourist group from abroad must be met by a trained Russian specialist. It is very important to offer guests exactly the Russian view, including history.

So far, due to the pandemic, a significant part of Russian-Chinese interaction, mainly cultural, is on pause. It does not require as many translators as before. Previously, gigantic delegations came to the Amur region from the Middle Kingdom - artists, culinary specialists, wushuists and even bikers. Each group needed translators.

- We literally stripped the entire faculty, sent teachers from the Confucius Institute. Now there is no such thing, - Nikolay Kukharenko noted. - There are requests from the museum for virtual exhibitions: you need to translate the names of paintings. Recently, we helped to translate a directory of private museums in Blagoveshchensk to the department of culture. As a result, it was published in English and Chinese. And the need for guides is not so great. While the pandemic - no delegations.
