The representative office of the LPR at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire (JCCC) stated that on February 17, the security forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired four times on the territory of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic (LPR). The officer of the LPR representation in the JCCC added that the Ukrainian security forces had been shelling four settlements controlled by the republic since 5:30 Moscow time. Sokolniki, Zolote-5, Veselenkoe and Nizhne Lozovoe came under fire. The shelling was carried out from mortars with a caliber of 120 and 82 mm, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns.

Earlier, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Mikhail Popov said that with the current concentration of Ukrainian troops on the border of Donbass, an accidental shot would be enough to flare up an armed conflict with renewed vigor.

Also, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko pointed out that Russia would not abandon its citizens to the DPR and LPR in the event of an invasion of the Ukrainian army into the territory of Donbass.
