US President Joe Biden will ask Congress for more than $770 billion in defense spending for fiscal year 2023, which begins October 1, Reuters reported, citing sources.

According to the interlocutors of the agency, the head of state will officially submit this request in the coming months, the final amount may change.

The Pentagon will be allocated about $773 billion, and taking into account spending on other needs, the budget may exceed $800 billion. At the same time, Congress may advocate an increase in the amount proposed by the president, one of Reuters' interlocutors noted.

Among the priority areas of spending under the new defense budget are the construction of ships, the development of space forces, the modernization of the nuclear triad, one of the agency's sources said.

According to another Reuters source, the Pentagon will continue to invest in weapons development in case of potential conflicts with Russia and China.

Earlier, the US Congress called on Biden to reconsider the country's nuclear policy.
