Russia - Peskov: French Foreign Minister distorted Putin's words

Russia (bbabo.net), - At talks with French leader Emmanuel Macron in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that there is no bill to recognize the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics, but there is an initiative. This was announced by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov, commenting at the request of journalists on the statements of the French Foreign Minister. At the same time, the practice of disclosing the content of negotiations is not correct; the Kremlin does not do this, he noted. Moreover, in this case, the nuances were distorted.

Recall, Jean-Yves Le Drian said that Putin allegedly said that he could not take into account this initiative of the deputies. “There, it was said that a question was asked about the bill, and it was explained that this was not a bill, but an initiative. That there was no bill on this score,” Peskov explained.

"These are such arguments on a free topic, as they say. Moreover, they do not help, but rather harm. We have great respect for Mr. French Foreign Minister, for his efforts in terms of resolving the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine, for his efforts to develop Russian-French relations, but in this case, such statements reveal the essence and content of closed confidential negotiations between the heads of state - Putin and Macron," the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation noted.

“This is not in our rules,” he continued. “We never do this and do not consider it right, because next time it will prevent the leaders from speaking confidentially with each other if they are not sure that everything said will not be replicated in several days in the media. "This limits their maneuver in discussing very, very sensitive and complex topics. We never disclose the content of such negotiations," Peskov stressed.

"The nuances are distorted in the minister's statement, and in such a sensitive responsible situation as today, it is extremely harmful," the Russian leader's spokesman said, but still quoted from the transcript of the conversation between the heads of state. "This violates the practice. But I'll just read you verbatim what was there, so that later we understand how important it is not to distort the information," he argued.

"This bill is in the State Duma. What do you want to do with this bill? Can it be put on pause?" Macron asked. "We don't have a bill. There is no bill. There is an initiative..." Putin replied. When asked if it was true that the Russian president did not say that he would not take it into account, Peskov replied that, of course, the conversation was about the bill, but it was explained that this was an initiative. “It seems to be the same, but everything is different,” he concluded.
