Turkish scientists reached Antarctica

Turkish researchers arrived in Antarctica on Monday to carry out 14 scientific projects, reports the Daily Sabah. Polar explorers landed on one of the islands off the coast of the coldest continent. The expedition is attended by 20 people.

The journey from Istanbul to Antarctica took them three weeks. “Immediately upon arrival, we began research. This year we have to implement 14 projects, which include the study of living organisms, the surface of the earth, as well as physical processes,” said Hasan Hakan Yavasoglu, head of the expedition.

The scientific mission is a joint project of the Antarctic University of Bulgaria and the Turkish Research Council of the Marmara Research Institute of Polar Research.
