Thousands of mail ballots invalidated in the US

Several thousand ballots mailed in by voters in the U.S. midterm primaries have been invalidated for failing to comply with new filing rules. It is reported by Reuters.

According to the voter identification law, adopted at the initiative of former US President Donald Trump, who feared mail fraud, only ballots with a voter identification number on the envelope are recognized as valid. However, not all voters who prefer to vote by mail fulfill this requirement.

So, according to the agency, in Harris County with a population of 4.7 million people, about 35% of mail ballots were invalidated. Now the employees of the election commissions are trying to correct the situation and prevent the disruption of the voting, scheduled for the end of February.

Mid-term congressional elections are scheduled for November 8, 2022. In total, candidates from 435 constituencies will run for the House of Representatives, who will be elected in the primaries.

Earlier, former US President Donald Trump announced his support for the candidate for Congress from the Republican Party in Texas, Monica De La Cruz, whom her ex-husband accused of violence against his daughter.

Trump said De La Cruz is a "successful small business woman" who will "fight hard" to grow the US economy, secure its borders, and support the nation's military.
