Lukashenko said that Putin urged to help Minsk in the construction of a port near St. Petersburg

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, following a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said that a port for transshipment of Belarusian cargo could be built near St. Petersburg. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“The President of Russia gave an order (I asked him to help the Russians, there was no red tape, bureaucracy, it’s not about money, there is money for this),” Lukashenka said.

According to him, Belarus expects to ship millions of tons of cargo within a year and a half.

On February 18, Putin met for the first time this year with his closest ally, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. His counterpart himself joked on this topic, saying that he was glad of his visit “at least to dilute this Western elite a little, I hope, with my own people.”

During the talks, Lukashenka confirmed that the economy in both Belarussia developed well last year, but inflationary challenges “from the outside” are being felt. The Belarusian President also noted that it is important not to slow down the pace of cooperation that was gained last year.
