British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said that London had agreed with partners in the "Big Seven" (G7) and the European Union sanctions against Russia in the event of its "invasion" of Ukraine. The diplomat said this in an interview with the German Welt am Sonntag.

She expressed the opinion that concessions will not stop Moscow from "attacking", so it is necessary to support Ukraine.

“We must ensure that a tough package of sanctions is in place in the event of an emergency. We have already agreed on these sanctions with our G7 and EU allies, including Germany," the British minister said.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss during talks in Moscow that Russia would retaliate harshly if the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against the country.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also pointed out that the anti-Russian activity of London in Ukraine and other countries of the post-Soviet space "cannot but have a negative impact on Russian-British relations."
