Russia - In the Amur region, 7 million rubles were paid to those infected with hepatitis C in a hospital

Russia (bbabo.net) - Compensation for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 700 to 800 thousand rubles was received by the parents of 10 children who contracted hepatitis C during treatment at the Amur Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. The total amount of compensation exceeded seven million rubles.

The decision on payments was made by the Blagoveshchensk City Court, having satisfied the claim of the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Dmitry Demeshin. Compensation for the victims has already been made.

"The reason for the prosecutor's office to protect the interests of minors in court was the numerous facts of a serious infectious disease among children that require long-term medical and therapeutic treatment," the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation for the Far Eastern Federal District reported.

The Office of Rospotrebnadzor in the Amur Region conducted an epidemiological investigation, during which it was found that due to improper performance by the hospital staff of their duties and non-compliance with sanitary standards, a chronic focus of infection appeared in the medical facility. Viral hepatitis C was diagnosed in many of the patients of the hematology department.

Recall that at the end of 2018, a scandal erupted in the Amur region due to reports of a large number of children being infected in the hospital. Hepatitis C was detected in patients in different years after undergoing treatment in a medical facility. A criminal case was initiated.
