Stoltenberg: If the Kremlin's goal is less NATO on its borders, it will get more NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the desire of the Russian side to reduce the presence of alliance forces on its own borders will lead to the opposite effect. He said this at the Munich Security Conference, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, the current crisis testifies to the importance of transatlantic relations for the security of Europe. Stoltenberg also stressed that NATO has a defensive function and the bloc does not pose a threat to anyone, including Russia.

“If the Kremlin’s goal is to have less NATO on its borders, it will only get more NATO,” the Secretary General said.

He added that the alliance will take the necessary measures to protect its members, and if Russia wants to split the bloc, it will make it "even more united."

Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that NATO is ready to provide Russian President Vladimir Putin with guarantees that the alliance does not pose a threat to the Russian Federation.
