More than 5.5 billion Matter-compatible smart home devices to be released from 2022 to 2030

Matter smart home specifications are still being finalized. Their publication is expected this semester. But specialists from the analytical company ABI Research are already predicting a bright future for the new standard. According to their forecast, more than 5.5 billion Matter-compatible smart home devices will be released between 2022 and 2030.

Analyst optimism is based on the fact that many major players, technology providers and their partners have already committed to release products that are compatible with Matter. The Matter specification is expected to dominate the smart home industry within five years. This year alone, more than 100 million devices supporting this specification will be released, and within five years, more than half of the key smart home devices worldwide will support Matter.

The first key Matter-compatible products from Amazon, Apple, Google, Samsung, and key component and service providers including NXP and Tuya were unveiled at CES 2022. Matter is expected to significantly change the way consumers experience smart home devices, and also change the motives of suppliers to participate in the smart home.

"Matter will leverage the power of smart home platforms to connect and control smart home devices without a generation of device vendor applications," said Jonathan Collins, director of smart home research at ABI Research. "OEMs/ODMs will have to quickly determine how they adapt to Matter and how best to protect and grow their customer base."

Unification and wide compatibility will improve the conditions for competition, attract new industries to participate in the development and implementation of smart homes.
