EU says mindset from past could cost Russia a prosperous future

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said at a security conference in Munich that a way of thinking based on a "dark past" could deprive Russia of a bright and prosperous future.

The world is currently facing the largest troop buildup in Europe since the Cold War, she said. The head of the EC believes that the "threats" of the Russian Federation against Ukraine are an attempt to rewrite the rules of the international system.

Von der Leyen said Russia and China are trying to create a "new era" to replace the current international order.

Der Leyen also said that the sanctions against the Russian Federation will affect the energy sector and high technology.

Since the fall of last year, the Western media, as well as in Ukraine, have been claiming that Russia is allegedly preparing a “large-scale invasion” of Ukraine. In Moscow, such allegations have been repeatedly rejected.
