The European Union threatened a very, very tough reaction to Russia's recognition of the DNR and LNR

European Commission Speaker Peter Stano spoke in an interview about the EU's reaction if Russia recognizes the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

“She [the reaction] will be very bad. Because Russia, having signed the Minsk agreements, recognized the sovereignty of Ukraine over these territories. Recognition by Moscow of their independence will be considered not only a violation of the obligations assumed, it will be the gravest violation of international law, which will lead to a serious escalation. The EU response will be very, very tough, and we will coordinate it with the international community,” he said.

On February 15, State Duma deputies supported a draft resolution developed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation on an appeal to President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. 351 members of the State Duma voted for its adoption, 16 people opposed, and one more abstained.
