Since the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Moldova on December 25, 1991, and the opening of an embassy in Chisinau on March 13, 1992, the United States of America has demonstrated its role as a strategic partner, firmly and consistently supporting our country's progress along the path of democracy, strengthening national institutions; strong support for the European path, economic development and modernization of the country, as well as the establishment of the Republic of Moldova as a democratic, sovereign and independent state.
“Throughout these years, we have appreciated the consistent position of the American side regarding a comprehensive, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders,” underlines the MFAEI.
The frequent US messages of support and encouragement for the efforts of the Republic of Moldova in building a democratic and prosperous society confirm the sustainability and high quality of the Moldovan-American partnership. “The upward development of our bilateral relationship is underlined by the Strategic Dialogue, the most important aspect of the Moldovan-American partnership, which provides large and measurable prospects for cooperation in a wide range of areas - strengthening the rule of law, justice reform, trade and economic cooperation, security and defense, energy security and sustainability, human contact.
The framework of the Strategic Dialogue provides us with a strong reference in the context of a deeply and rapidly changing world, dominated by multiple security challenges, to which events related to the COVID-19 pandemic have added, and with the United States providing us with significant assistance, for which we want to once again express our gratitude,” the press release said.
Valuable long-term support through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other US government agencies, the implementation of various projects and assistance programs in priority areas for the development of the Republic of Moldova and increasing the competitiveness of the national economy, including agriculture, viticulture, tourism, light industry, creative industries, information and communications technology (ICT), all of which together support reform and strengthen economic growth for the benefit of citizens.
A separate aspect is interpersonal relationships, academic exchanges and internship programs provided over these 30 years to thousands of beneficiaries throughout the country, including the valuable contribution of the Peace Corps, which since 1993 - at the invitation of the Moldovan government - has been helping to develop the teaching of English, developing programs in public and organizational sphere, entrepreneurship and health education.
