Alexander Muravsky about the spot gas market and the Moldovan authorities: The height of incompetence

Moldova (bbabo.net), - The Moldovan authorities have demonstrated "the height of incompetence" in resolving the issue of gas supplies to the republic. This opinion is shared by former Deputy Prime Minister of Economy of Moldova Alexander Muravsky. He recalled that in August last year, President Putin's representative Dmitry Kozak visited Chisinau. During a short interview, he “said quite clearly that Russia is ready to renew the contract on favorable terms for Moldova,” gagauzinfo.md reports.

“On the sidelines, a figure was also called, it was called by experts. There was talk of gas supplies under a long-term contract up to $270 or even lower. That is, everything was done, and it was up to the Moldovan side,” Alexander Muravsky said on the STV HD channel.

Later, Moldovan representatives stated that the negotiations were purely commercial in nature and "no political conditions were put forward." After the signing of the contract, in which the price of supplies was several times higher, the country's authorities stated that the price was "half the market price."

But these statements “raise questions about the competence” of the Moldovan authorities, the analyst believes.

“Compare prices on the spot market in Europe, where de facto it is not so much gas that is sold, but contracts are resold ... Before gas enters the consumer’s stoves, it passes through the hands of dozens of traders and intermediaries, each of whom wants to profit from it.

Thus, this is a purely speculative price, which consists of a number of market factors. Comparing this price with the price of a long-term contract that is stable for a long period is the height of incompetence and illiteracy,” Alexander Muravsky added.

According to him, "no victory has been achieved here." And, when it became clear that the price was becoming "practically unbearable for a significant part of the population," statements began that "this is blackmail and Russia wants to bring us to our knees."

“We have statements from Mr. Spinu and the Prime Minister that this is a profitable contract and our victory. There are statements by Mr. Grosu that this price is abnormal and very high, we are being blackmailed and pressured. So guys, sort it out among yourself, work out one message to the population. And then you - three leaders of one party - come out to us and each pulls the cart in his direction. Can't you make up your mind?" - concluded Alexander Muravsky.
