Experts gave forecasts for 13 Moldova-Romania agreements and 100 million euros

Moldova (bbabo.net), - The governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova met on February 11 in Chisinau and held a general meeting. They signed 13 protocols related to all aspects of bilateral relations. Prime Ministers Nicolae Chuca and Natalia Gavrilita also signed an agreement on non-refundable financial assistance from Romania in the amount of 100 million euros, zdg.md reports.

This money will be invested in development projects of the Republic of Moldova - from education to military cooperation and European integration. This is the fifth joint meeting in the last 10 years, although the previous four meetings fell short of expectations.

Experts gave predictions about the prospects and whether the Gavrilits government could do better.

As political commentator Stella Jantuan noted, "we had different situations in relations with Romania," and "even in the case of joint meetings of governments, which have been so far."

"We acted in 2012, and in 2015, and in 2017, and in 2018, but everything did not go as we expected. Everything depended on the Chisinau governments, which were not very favorable towards relations with Romania, although they used assistance from Romania.

Now we have a different situation in the government, and I hope that these relations will develop. Perhaps this time it will be the opposite, and the Republic of Moldova will take advantage of all the opportunities in relations with Romania, and the political situation in Romania will not be conducive to cooperation.

Recently, governments change too often. I think that in the situation Moldova finds itself in – one crisis is worse than another – Romania is the most important thing for us,” Stella Jantuan said.

In turn, political analyst Anatolie Taranu stressed that "the range of cooperation is very wide, and Chisinau expressed its readiness to cooperate." In his opinion, there are no longer those ideological barriers that were before.

"This gives hope for the application of these agreements. Now the ball is in the field for Chisinau. Chisinau must prove itself, and Bucharest is ready for it. Funds come from Romania, and the Republic of Moldova must have the ability to "assimilate" them.

Chuca's remark should be remembered: "Romania has money, but Romania also has good experience that can be adopted." And this is the most important, because the Republic of Moldova needs not only fish, but also a fishing rod.

Of course, given the huge budget deficit faced by the Republic of Moldova, money plays an important role, but once and for all we must learn how to earn money on our own and live on our own.

Romania has such experience. I think that in order for the meetings of these two governments to be more fruitful, they should not be random, but should be systematic. For example, it is worth holding them once a year or twice a year and observing them… There are many things that can be improved to make this cooperation more productive,” Taranu concluded.
