Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, as part of Moscow talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad, said that Western countries are trying to create a confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance, TASS reports.

The diplomat noted that the situation in the world, including North Africa, the Middle East and the Syrian settlement, is developing rapidly.

“Unfortunately, our efforts with you, which are aimed at implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2254, are influenced by the atmosphere that our Western colleagues are now whipping up, trying to create an almost insurmountable confrontation between the Russian Federation and the Western alliance,” Lavrov said.

Earlier, Sergei Lavrov called on colleagues from the United States and NATO to "observe the concepts at the international level." He said that Russia is interested in negotiations with the State Department, but will seek fair treatment of Russia in negotiations on security guarantees.
