Berlin urged Moscow to cancel the decision to recognize the DPR and LPR

The German Foreign Ministry called Russia's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics a violation of international law and called on the Kremlin to reverse this decision. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Earlier, a similar claim to the Russian authorities was put forward by the heads of the European Commission and the European Council Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel. In Brussels, Moscow was also threatened with sanctions - "the reaction of the EU and its partners will be united and resolute."

The Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, Victoria Cmilyte-Nielsen, in turn, said that she would propose to the Parliament to respond to Russia with an international resolution on non-recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the DPR and LPR today, February 21, in the evening. The heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed the corresponding request.

The signing of the decree was preceded by an unscheduled meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, during which those present spoke in favor of recognizing the DNR and LNR.
