Leonid Kalashnikov, head of the relevant committee for CIS affairs of the State Duma, said that the recognition of the LPR and DPR will be within the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine. It is reported by Interfax.

“This agreement does not specify, but I think it means statehood, which was approved in the old and only referendum, which was held in different borders than those currently occupied by the DPR,” he said.

Kalashnikov explained that now the republics occupy less territory than was decided in the referendum, but they believe that their statehood extends to that territory too.

Earlier, the specialized committees of the State Duma on international affairs, as well as on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots unanimously recommended that the lower house of parliament ratify the agreements with the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance.

The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed orders recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. The heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed the corresponding request.
