The EU will impose sanctions against 351 State Duma deputies who voted for the recognition of the DPR and LPR

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced the imposition of sanctions against 351 State Duma deputies who voted for the recognition of the DPR and LPR, and another 27 individuals and legal entities. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We have reached an agreement among the 27 EU members on the package of sanctions that I proposed. This package of sanctions will be very painful for Russia. 351 State Duma deputies who voted for such a decision will fall under these measures. Also, these measures will affect another 27 individuals and organizations,” the diplomat said.

According to him, this decision was agreed upon, despite the different points of view of the 27 EU members. Borrell acknowledged that the sanctions do not have a magical effect, but are "painful".

Borrell also stressed that MPs would no longer be able to shop in Milan, buy diamonds in Antwerp and party in Saint Tropez.

Earlier it was reported that at a meeting of representatives of the European Union, Hungary did not support the imposition of sanctions against Russia for recognizing the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed orders recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. With a corresponding request, the heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik turned to him. In the West, Russia's actions were regarded as a violation of international law and announced their intention to impose sanctions against it. The issue of new restrictive measures is being studied in the European Union, Canada, Great Britain, the USA and Japan.
