Russia has been establishing diplomatic relations with the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics since February 22. This is stated in the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry, published on the agency's website.

The report says that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov congratulated DPR Foreign Minister Nikonorova and LPR Foreign Minister Deinego on the recognition of these states and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Russia.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed laws on the ratification of agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the DPR and LPR.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed orders recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. The heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed the corresponding request.

On February 22, the State Duma of Russia unanimously ratified the agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the DPR and LPR. The documents for ratification were submitted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The parliaments of the republics of Donbass have already ratified the agreements.
