“Symptoms are similar to those of previous strains: high fever, persistent cough and loss of smell and/or taste again. It is advisable to immediately consult a doctor and undergo an examination, but the key factor will be whether a person is immunized or not, ”the specialist said.

Andrey Pozdnyakov also stated that the first symptoms of infection with the Omicron strain are nasal congestion and a runny nose. Also, about 80% of Omicron patients complain of sore throats, he pointed out.

Previously, researchers from Denmark determined that the omicron BA.2 subspecies is even more contagious than its predecessor. BA.2 or "stealth omicron" was discovered in Algeria in January.

Prior to this, a general practitioner of the highest category, Alexei Vodovozov, listed the characteristic symptoms of coronavirus that are not present with “omicron”. According to him, for patients infected with a new strain, shortness of breath and loss of smell, which were previously considered almost the main symptom of COVID-19, are not typical.
