Golovkin learned the main condition for getting a third fight with Canelo

IBF and IBO world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) from Kazakhstan is on the verge of a trilogy with Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs), bbabo.net correspondent reports.

According to ESPN insider Mike Coppinger, Canelo is close to a two-fight DAZN deal with matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. The offer includes a fight with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol on May 7 and Golovkin on September 17, but within the super middleweight division.

However, according to sources, the main condition for the organization of the trilogy is the victory of Canelo and Golovkin in their upcoming fights.

Golovkin will first face Ryota Murata in a rescheduled middleweight unification bout in Tokyo in the spring and, like Alvarez, will have to come out victorious to keep the third bout (against Canelo) intact,” Coppinger writes.

Recall that Golovkin's fight against Murata for the WBA Super, IBF and IBO middleweight titles was scheduled for December 2021, but was postponed. The fight is expected to take place this spring.

Golovkin's previous two fights with Canelo took place in the middleweight limit: the first (in September 2017) ended in a controversial draw, and a year later the Mexican won minimally. After that, Alvarez conquered the fourth division and became the undisputed champion in the second middleweight (WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF).
