Figure skaters Stepanova and Bukin will miss the team tournament at the Olympics

Russian figure skaters Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin will not compete in the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics, Match TV reports.

The dance duet will not be able to take part in the team tournament, since Stepanova and Bukin, who did not take part in the pre-Olympic training camp of the national team in Krasnoyarsk, did not fly to Beijing on a charter from Moscow. It was the last available direct flight from the Russian capital to the Chinese one.

Now, as the TV channel notes, skaters will be able to fly to Beijing only through Krasnoyarsk. The next flights are scheduled for February 6 and 7.

The reasons why the athletes could not fly out are not reported. RBC turned to the press services of the Figure Skating Federation and the Russian Olympic Committee for comment.

A Ukrainian figure skater answered in English questions from Russians at the Olympic Games. They will last until February 7 inclusive. Competitions of dance duets will be held on February 12 and 14.

In ice dancing from Russia at the Olympics, in addition to Stepanova and Bukin, two more pairs are announced: Victoria Sinitsina / Nikita Katsalapov and Diana Davis / Gleb Smolkin. All other skaters of the Russian national team, except for Stepanova and Bukin, arrived in China on February 1.

Stepanova and Bukin are two-time champions of Russia (2021, 2022), two-time silver medalists of the European Championship (2019, 2022), world junior champions (2013), winners of the junior Grand Prix final (2012).
