Free Ukraine, clean it from the Nazis. The Kremlin revealed the goals of the Russian operation

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov spoke about the goals, possible terms and conditions for the end of the operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. The main statements of the Kremlin representative are in the article

Aims and timing of the operation

“The goals were told by the president - the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. Actually, both of them pose a threat to our state and our people, ”Peskov said, speaking at a press conference.

According to him, the situation is "very troubling." But, as the president explained, "this is all dictated, indeed, by our national interests, this is dictated by concern for the future of our country." Peskov stressed that what is happening in Ukraine obliges Moscow to an increased level of vigilance and caution.

“Ideally, Ukraine should be liberated, cleaned from the Nazis, from pro-Nazi people and ideology,” Peskov added.

He explained that the demilitarization of Ukraine means "the neutralization of the military potential, which has recently been considerably grown, including due to the vigorous activity of foreign countries."

As the presidential press secretary noted, the timing of the operation depends on its effectiveness and expediency, they "will be determined by the Supreme Commander." The presidential spokesman added that he could not disclose military information and the Ministry of Defense remained the only official source.

Conditions for the end of the operation

Putin has already formed his vision of what Russia would expect from Ukraine so that "conceptual red-line problems are resolved," Peskov said.

“He formulated it quite clearly. This is a neutral status, this is a refusal to deploy weapons. He talked about it. And here the question is whether the leadership of Ukraine is ready for this,” the presidential press secretary emphasized.

He added that the Kremlin sees no barriers to organizing negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky. But this is only possible if Ukraine is willing to talk about Moscow's security concerns.

Peskov also stressed that the word "occupation" is unacceptable when talking about a special military operation to demilitarize Ukraine.

“No one talks about the occupation. And in this case, this word is not applicable here,” Peskov said, noting that a possible regime change in Ukraine is “a matter of choice for the Ukrainian people.”

No to the Iron Curtain

Peskov believes that the majority of Russian citizens support the special operation to demilitarize Ukraine.

“The reaction, we know with you that a solid majority of the population supported the president’s decision to recognize the two republics of the DPR and LPR ... this is exactly what is happening on the basis of appeals from the leaders of these two republics, so we can assume that the level of support will be no less,” said the representative Kremlin.

He is also convinced that Russia cannot be behind the Iron Curtain.

“Of course, we may have problems with a number of states, but one way or another, we had problems with these states before, and without it. But it is simply impossible to close a country like Russia with an iron curtain,” he said.

Sanctions and finance

“The emotional reaction of the markets and the emotional reaction in the financial sector, it was predicted. And in order for the period of this emotional reaction to be as short as possible, all necessary measures were taken. The necessary margin of safety was created, and so on, so yes, this is an inevitable emotional reaction, but at the same time it will undoubtedly even out and take on a calmer, more conscious character, ”Peskov said.

According to him, the Kremlin has a negative attitude towards possible Western sanctions against Putin and the Cabinet of Ministers. Earlier, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that EU sanctions should be directed against the President of Russia and the government because of the operation in Ukraine.

"Negatively... Let's analyze the events and calculate further steps as the problem arrives," the presidential press secretary concluded.

Beginning of the operation

On Thursday morning, Putin announced that he had decided to launch a special military operation of the Russian Federation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. In his video message, he explained that the circumstances “require decisive and immediate action from us, the people’s republics of Donbass turned to Russia with a request for help.”

The Russian leader also placed all responsibility for the bloodshed on the conscience of the ruling regime in Ukraine. He called on the Ukrainian military not to follow the criminal orders of the Ukrainian authorities, lay down their arms and go home.
