Moscow commented on Zelensky's words about the possibility of returning nuclear weapons

The statement of the Ukrainian authorities about the possibility of returning nuclear weapons turned the whole situation upside down. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, RIA Novosti reports.

“When the inadequate representatives of the country of Ukraine hinted at whether to return to the discussion of the presence of nuclear weapons, it turned, it seems to me, the whole story in general ... It would be great if now at those NATO gatherings that are taking place, who I would have thought about it, ”the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he intends to initiate consultations within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum, which provided for the country's renunciation of nuclear weapons. According to the president, if the summit of the countries participating in the Budapest Memorandum does not take place or does not provide Ukraine with security guarantees, then the document will be recognized as invalid. This includes items approved in 1994.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu called this idea extremely dangerous, pointing out that in terms of nuclear weapons, Ukraine has more capabilities than Iran and North Korea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, said that Zelensky's statement was "not empty bravado", noting that Ukraine still has Soviet nuclear technology and delivery systems for such weapons.
