The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced the convening of an extraordinary council of EU foreign ministers on Sunday evening, February 27. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Twitter of a European official.

“I am convening a virtual meeting of EU foreign ministers for tomorrow at 18:00 (20:00 Moscow time) to take further action in support of Ukraine against Russian aggression. I will offer an emergency aid package to the Ukrainian armed forces to support them in their heroic struggle,” he wrote.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation in the Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR. Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.

Earlier, Borrell said that in the coming days we should not wait for the adoption of the third package of sanctions against Russia.
