Putin: Russia's proposals on state security are not an ultimatum

During a meeting of the expanded collegium of the Ministry of Defense, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia's proposals on state security guarantees are not an ultimatum.

“We already see that some of our ill-wishers interpret them as an ultimatum from Russia. Is this an ultimatum or not? Of course not, ”Putin said.

He noted that earlier the United States, "supposedly ensuring its interests and supposedly its security thousands of kilometers from its national territory, did tough and bright things without any sanction of the UN Security Council."

On December 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry handed over to the American side the draft treaty between Russia and the United States on security guarantees and an agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and NATO member states. In the document, the parties undertake to eliminate all existing infrastructure for deploying nuclear weapons outside their territory, to exercise restraint in military planning and during exercises to reduce the risks of possible dangerous situations, and also not to take actions that affect the security of each other.

The agreement also provides for the obligation of Russia and NATO not to deploy additional armed forces and weapons in Europe, and for the United States not to create military bases on the territory of countries that were part of the USSR and are not members of NATO.
