Just a visit, or a hidden sign?

Asia (bbabo.net), - Former US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has been invited to attend a business forum in Taiwan next month. This was reported today, August 26, by the Taipei Times.

An event called the Global Taiwan Business Forum will be held on September 27 in Kaohsiung City at the initiative of Ziyu Shibao. It is expected that it will bring together about 300 businessmen, including foreign guests.

Pompeo already visited the island in early March of this year. The head of the Taiwan administration, Tsai Ing-wen, then presented him with an order for his great personal contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.

A new visit could irritate Beijing, which views Taiwan as part of Chinese territory and lists Pompeo among the politicians who are responsible for steps that violate the country's sovereignty. In January last year, the Chinese authorities imposed sanctions on 28 such US citizens, including the former secretary of state.

Recall that recently, against the backdrop of aggravated relations with Beijing, Washington has significantly intensified ties with Taipei, which is reflected in the regular visits of American delegations to the island, including through the US Congress. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) is currently in Taiwan. The PRC considers such visits to be provocations and interference in China's internal affairs.
