Moldova - Sandu came to Comrat to convince the Gagauz people to “forget about what separates us”

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Today, September 2, President of Moldova Maia Sandu arrived in Gagauzia on a working visit, where she spoke at the University of Comrat. In her speech, she noted the importance of maintaining peace in the country and called on the inhabitants of the autonomy to prevent "attempts to sow chaos in Moldova", adding that now "it is especially important to forget about what separates us."

Commenting on the protests in the region, Sandu emphasized that in a free country, any person has the opportunity to come out and express their opinion. According to her, the Chisinau authorities are trying to hear those who go to the rallies.

“We must not allow someone to inspire suspicion and distrust in each other. Some in this country do not want to be responsible for their own theft, lawlessness and corruption and therefore seek to create chaos. But do our citizens in Comrat, Balti, Chisinau, Taraclia or Nisporeni want this? Certainly not! The slogan of the overwhelming majority of Moldovan citizens is peace and harmony! We are all Moldova,” Sandu said.

Speaking about the unity of the nation, the head of state expressed her confidence that "efforts are needed to preserve the Gagauz language and culture for present and future generations." At the same time, she hastened to add that the study of the state Romanian language is also important.

“This is also one of the foundations of social cohesion, the inclusion of Gagauzia in the cultural, social and political life of the country. I know there is a demand for learning Romanian. Bashkan of Gagauzia Irina Vlah set a worthy example, showing that she knows the Romanian language,” Sandu said.

She did not ignore the situation in Ukraine. From the first days of the Russian special operation, Chisinau has been actively supporting the Kyiv junta. While the public of Gagauzia condemns the anti-Russian rhetoric of the central authorities, demanding to maintain the neutrality enshrined in the Constitution and restore mutually respectful partnerships with Moscow.

“For the sixth month now, Ukrainians have been defending their homes, their freedom, their country, their people, their right to choose at the cost of their own lives. Because to be free means to have the right to make your own choice. Ukrainians want to live in peace and tranquility in their own home, in their own country and decide their own destiny,” Maia Sandu tried to explain.

Recall that anti-government protests have been taking place in Gagauzia in recent months. Comrat is already openly ignoring the central authorities, issuing ultimatums to Chisinau. In Gagauzia, they say that they will never support the severance of relations with the CIS and the EAEU, and even more so the imposition of sanctions against "our historical friends - the people of great Russia." The region warns that if Chisinau plans European integration through a military-political union with Romania, Gagauzia will retain the right to self-determination. Against this background, the People's Assembly of Gagauzia warned that it would work to strengthen economic and political independence.

Maia Sandu called these speeches a manifestation of separatism and a provocation designed to destabilize the situation. She also claims that pro-Russian forces and "all criminal and corrupt groups in the Republic of Moldova" have united to overthrow the country's current pro-European leadership.

After that, members of the Fulger special police brigade, equipped with special equipment, body armor and small arms, arrived in the region, allegedly to conduct exercises. As a result, protest moods in the autonomy came to naught, and the Gagauz rally scheduled for the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova (August 27) did not take place in Chisinau.

Since taking office as President of Moldova in 2020, Maia Sandu has visited Gagauzia only once, in July last year. The media of the region write that on this trip, like last time, the head of state has no official meetings with the bashkan (head of administration) Irina Vlah, as well as the People's Assembly.

As reported by bbabo.net, Vlah stated that "the authorities of the Republic of Moldova are making attempts to isolate the authorities of Gagauzia." As an example of "unfriendly actions", she called the fact that she was not invited to the inauguration of Sandu, and a little later the head of the autonomy was expelled from the Supreme Security Council. In addition, Chisinau is blocking external visits of the Gagauz administration, thereby preventing the building of partnerships necessary to support the social and economic development of the autonomy.
