Putin: We are ready to transfer Russian fertilizers from European ports to poor countries for free

The Russian Federation is ready to transfer to developing countries 300,000 tons of Russian fertilizers that have now accumulated in the seaports of the European Union. This was announced today, September 16, by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the Council of Heads of State - members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in an expanded format, which is taking place in Samarkand.

He drew attention to the "bright example of selfishness" of the West - "the decision of the European Commission to lift sanctions on Russian fertilizers."

“We know how important fertilizer is to solving the food problem. We, of course, welcome the very decision to lift the sanctions. But it turns out that these sanctions, in accordance with the explanation of the European Commission of September 10 this year, were lifted only for EU member states. It turns out that only they can purchase our fertilizers. But what about the developing, poorest countries in the world?” Putin said.

“Using the presence of the Deputy Head of the UN Secretary-General, Ms. [Rosemary] DiCarlo, I wanted to ask the UN Secretariat, and the day before yesterday I spoke about this with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Guterres, to influence the decision of the European Commission and not in words, but in deeds demand from them, from colleagues in the European Commission, that they remove these obviously discriminatory restrictions against developing countries and ensure access of Russian fertilizers to these markets as well,” the Russian leader continued.

As Putin noted, he "also informed Mr. Guterres the day before yesterday that 300,000 tons of Russian fertilizers had accumulated in the seaports of the European Union."

“We are ready to transfer them to developing countries free of charge,” he stressed.

The President of the Russian Federation also noted that "Russia is increasing grain exports to world markets."

“This year it will be 30 million tons, next year we will increase it to 50 million tons. Basically, 90 percent of our food goes to the markets of Asia, Africa and Latin America,” the head of state added.
