Asia (bbabo.net), - On Monday, the first freight train set off along the new China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan transport corridor. This was reported today, September 20, by Ferghana News Agency with reference to the press service of the national company Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Railways of Uzbekistan).

According to the press service, cargo transportation along this multimodal corridor is carried out from the Kashgar railway station (China) to the Osh railway station (Kyrgyzstan) by road. Further to the Mazar-i-Sharif station (Afghanistan) through Uzbekistan - by rail.

The first train included twelve 40-foot containers loaded with food, household appliances and products for the needs of the national economy.

“According to rough estimates, only in the direction of Afghanistan along this multimodal route, the volume of cargo transportation will be more than 4,000 containers per year,” the press service said.

It is noted that a 70% discount will apply to the transportation of goods through the territory of Uzbekistan, and up to 50% through the territory of other countries of the multimodal corridor.

In June of this year, an automobile cargo corridor from Pakistan to Uzbekistan through Afghanistan also began to operate. The 2,760 km route runs from the port of Karachi through Peshawar, Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif and Termez to Tashkent.
