The Iranian Foreign Ministry reported that in February-March 2022, a summit of Russia, Turkey and Iran on Syria in the "Astana format" will be held in Tehran. TASS writes about this with reference to the senior adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on special political issues Ali Asghar Haji.

“Yes, the summit is planned. We are preparing to host it early next year. This will depend on the pandemic situation. But on the whole, we agreed to hold a summit. Most likely, in February or March we will be able to hold this summit, ”the diplomat said.

According to him, a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation, Iran and Turkey will take place before the summit meeting.

The adviser added that the next international meeting on Syria in the "Astana format" will be convened a few weeks after the summit of the Russian Federation, Iran and Turkey.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian praised the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran in Syria.

The armed forces of Russia, the United States, Turkey, Iran are present on the territory of Syria. At the same time, by the end of 2017, the positions of IS (the organization is banned in Russia) in Syria have noticeably weakened, both Moscow and Washington claim victory over them. The war in Syria is considered the deadliest conflict of the 21st century: according to approximate data, the death toll in it by 2021 exceeded 600 thousand people, about 5.5 million people fled the country.

Since 2017, negotiations have been underway to end the armed conflict in Syria, known as the "Astana format". It is attended by representatives of Russia, Iran and Turkey.
