Moscow: Geneva discussions on Transcaucasia will not become a hostage of geopolitics

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - Freezing the work of the Geneva discussions in line with the anti-Russian line is unacceptable - Russian Foreign Ministry

Moscow is concerned about ongoing attempts to make the Geneva discussions on the Transcaucasus a hostage to events in other regions and the general geopolitical situation in general, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following the results of the 56th round of discussions held on October 5 in Geneva.

“The Russian side emphasized the destructive nature of the actions of a number of participants in the discussions, who, in line with their anti-Russian line, froze the work of the Geneva format for nine months. They pointed out the inadmissibility of a repetition of such a situation. They made it clear that we will determine our further steps taking into account the receptivity of the co-chairs and the host Swiss side to Russian concerns,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the agency, despite a months-long pause in holding rounds, as well as attempts by non-regional players to provoke tension, the situation in the border regions of Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia remains relatively calm.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for December in Geneva.

Representatives of Abkhazia, Georgia, South Ossetia, the Russian Federation and the United States are participating in the International Geneva discussions on security and stability in the Transcaucasus, which began after another act of aggression by Georgia against South Ossetia in 2008, under the co-chairmanship of the UN, OSCE and the European Union.
