Design work on the reconstruction of the airport began in Mariupol

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - In Mariupol, they are preparing for the reconstruction of the local airport. According to preliminary plans, it will take two years to complete the entire range of necessary work.

This was reported by the DAN agency, referring to the statement of the head of the government of the Donetsk People's Republic Vitaliy Khotsenko. According to him, work on the project has already begun.

“In the next two years, on behalf of the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin, the airport will be ready for launch. The terminal was badly damaged by shelling. Specialists are surveying buildings to determine the degree of what can be restored and which objects need to be rebuilt,” Khotsenko said.

He added that to date, the sappers have fully completed the demining work, which made it possible to start designing. The project provides that the airport will receive both civil and military aircraft.

Mariupol is the largest city on the coast of the Sea of Azov, one of the key centers of metallurgy in Donbass and a major seaport. Occupied by Russian troops on April 21, 2022. The housing stock and infrastructure were significantly damaged in the fighting. Restoration work is underway in the city.

The airport in Mariupol was built in 1931. During its heyday during the Soviet era, the airport carried up to 120,000 passengers a year. In May 2004, the airport received international status.

After the DPR, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, join Russia, the Sea of Azov will become an inland sea of Russia, and the port of Mariupol will become an important cargo point.
