Macron for lasting peace in the Caucasus

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 (declaration on the goals and principles of the CIS. - Ed.), By which they mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, said French President Emmanuel Macron after the four-party meetings held late on October 6 in Prague on the sidelines of the meeting of the European Political Community.

“Armenia has agreed to contribute to the implementation of the civil mission of the European Union on the border with Azerbaijan, which also agrees to cooperate,” the French leader said on Twitter, heading his message as follows: “For lasting peace in the Caucasus.”

The purpose of this civilian mission, according to Macron, is to establish trust and promote the work of the border commissions of the two Transcaucasian republics.

As reported by bbabo.net, two meetings were held in the capital of the Czech Republic last Thursday between President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. This was the first meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev since the escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the middle of last month.

It should be recalled that within the framework of the implementation of the agreements on the start of the border delimitation process reached between the two Transcaucasian republics, on the basis of the relevant instructions of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, on May 24, the first meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev was held at the interstate border. At the same time, the parties agreed to hold a second meeting in a similar format in Moscow, and a third in Brussels. During the second meeting on August 30 in the Russian capital, the parties held a substantive exchange of views on the work and regulations of the joint activities of the commissions.
