Asia (bbabo.net) - At least 19 people have died in an avalanche that hit climbers in the Indian part of the Himalayas, local authorities said this Friday. At the same time, it is indicated that bad weather in the area of the tragedy impedes the fourth day of search and rescue operations, reports France-Presse (AFP).

A group of mountaineering trainees and instructors were caught in a massive snow slide near the summit of Mount Draupadi ka Danda-2 in the northern state of Uttarakhand last Tuesday.

“Nineteen bodies found. Ten people are still missing,” Ridhim Aggarwal, a spokesman for the state emergency agency, told AFP.

“Rescue work resumed during the day, but depends on weather conditions,” she added.

Police, disaster relief services and the Indian Air Force have been mobilized to carry out search operations. As a result, 32 people were rescued during their evacuation from this mountain, despite extremely adverse weather conditions - heavy rainfall.
