Baku opposed anti-Belarusian declaration at the Eastern Partnership summit

Belarus (bbabo.net), - Following the results of the 6th Eastern Partnership Summit of the European Union in Brussels, a joint declaration was adopted. Azerbaijan did not join the paragraph of the document, which concerns the internal political situation in Belarus, the media of the Transcaucasian republic reported today, December 16.

The Republic of Azerbaijan did not accede to paragraph 11 of the joint declaration of the Eastern Partnership summit dated December 15, 2021, and with regard to any operations “in the conflict-affected regions” mentioned in paragraph 8 of the annex to the declaration, made the following reservation: “without corresponding request and agreement with the Republic of Azerbaijan ”.

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, officially stated that Azerbaijan did not agree with paragraph 11 of the joint declaration in connection with the internal political situation in Belarus and expressed his special position on this point.

As the Azerbaijani pro-government publications note in the morning, not joining the clause of the declaration on the internal affairs of Minsk, Baku “once again demonstrated that for it respect for the sovereignty of countries, non-interference in their internal affairs is a red line. Azerbaijan does not accept a politicized approach to human rights, humanitarian issues and double standards. ”

Let us recall that the Eastern Partnership launched in 2009 is an EU project aimed at developing integration ties with six former Soviet republics - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The program is seen as a “regional dimension of the European Neighborhood Policy”, which was initiated by Brussels in relation to its “new neighbors” after the next EU enlargement in 2004.
