The chief adviser of the State Department demanded that Georgia put pressure on Russia

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - The US State Department's chief adviser on negotiations in the Caucasus, Philip Reeker, who arrived in Tbilisi on a working visit, made a video message on social networks demanding to put pressure on Russia.

“During this visit, I intend to discuss how to continue efforts to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Including how the United States can contribute to a peaceful solution to the issue of ending the Russian occupation of Georgia and pressure Russia to comply with its obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement,” Reeker said.

What kind of "ceasefire" is in question, the chief adviser of the State Department did not specify. As bbabo.net reported, after forcing Georgia to peace in August 2008, South Ossetia and Russia signed an interstate agreement, according to which a Russian military based in the republic. Now South Ossetia is protected from armed attacks by Tbilisi, which periodically occurred from 1989 to 2008. Since 2008, there has been no more shooting in South Ossetia due to the war.

Philip Reeker also stressed in the video message that the US stands with Georgia in its quest for NATO and EU membership and "this is the future people want and deserve."

“I would like to thank the citizens of Georgia for their hospitality and strong partnership with the United States. If, as the Georgians say, a guest is a gift from God, then Georgia is a gift for guests like me,” Ricker said.

The representative of the State Department also noted that "Georgia makes an important contribution to regional security, contributing to the resolution of issues between Yerevan and Baku." He recalled that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili played an important role in the process of releasing prisoners and exchanging information about the location of mines.
