Christians, Muslims and Jews jointly prayed for Turkey

Muslim, Christian and Jewish leaders in the United States have gathered in Washington DC to offer joint prayers for the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The interreligious service was organized by the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros. The event was held on the territory of Georgetown University.

“As someone who was born and raised in Turkey, where I spent most of my life, I was shocked to the core by the scale of the losses [from earthquakes],” the archbishop commented.

The interfaith service was attended by Turkish Ambassador to the United States Hasan Murat Merchan, Turkish-American Imam Nurullah Celebi, Bishop Denis Madden of Baltimore, Archbishops John Kavac and Viken Haykazian from various branches of Christianity, and Rabbi Richard Marker.
