Israel: Israeli President Isaac Herzog delivered a special address to the nation on Sunday, December 24th.
“This is a very difficult evening,” the head of state began his speech. “Everyone’s heart clenches with grief when the words “names are allowed for publication” are heard. Behind each name of an Israeli hero who fell in battle is a whole family - parents, children, wife, grandchildren.
Our sons and daughters are fighting bravely. They put themselves at mortal risk in tunnels, houses in enemy territory and achieve results.
This is a necessary war - hard, painful. It cannot be finished at once.
Even on such a difficult day, we must raise our heads, we cannot break.
The enemy is just waiting for a split to occur in our society and for us to begin to conflict with each other.
The enemy sees all these ego games, political squabbles - and is happy about it. The enemy is delighted with every dispute that causes a split. I call for an end to all strife in this difficult hour.
Under no circumstances should we return to the format that was before October 6, to the division into “us” and “them”. Anyone who returns us to this format jeopardizes national security.
I call for responsibility for the sake of our soldiers at the front. Be patient with political slogans—patience won’t hurt.”
