The Kiev prosecutor's office opened criminal proceedings due to the lack of a New Year tree at the Kiev Central Railway Station, according to the website of the supervisory authority.

According to the agreement between the Vokzalnaya company branch and the Ukrzaliznytsia joint-stock company, the tree was to be installed on December 17th. The cost of installing and decorating the festive tree was 5 million hryvnia (more than 13.5 million rubles).

“At present, investigative actions are underway to clarify all the circumstances of the criminal proceedings and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the message says. The investigation is being carried out by prosecutors together with investigators of the railway transport police and with the operational support of the military counterintelligence department of the SBU.

Earlier it was reported that the main tree in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol collapsed as a result of a gust of strong wind, after which the authorities promised to return it to its place.
