The Japan Self-Defense Forces and the US Armed Forces have drafted a plan for a joint operation in the event of a Taiwan-related emergency. This is reported by Reuters, citing sources in the government of the first country.

It is noted that the action project involves the emergency transfer of American marines to the group of the South Japanese islands of Nansei and the creation of temporary military bases there. In addition, the Japanese armed forces will provide logistical support to their American counterparts in areas such as the supply of ammunition and fuel.

At the same time, the risks for the inhabitants of the aforementioned islands due to possible attacks from China are separately noted.

It is argued that the heads of the foreign and defense ministries of Japan and the United States can begin an official study of this plan as early as 2022.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan fears that Beijing may organize a surprise attack on the island, using the exercise as a springboard for full-scale military operations. This scenario would be consistent with Beijing's goal of invading Taiwan by 2025, ministry officials said.
