General Director of UNESCO called an emergency meeting with the UN Security Council on Thursday, February 26 after the destruction of pre-Islamic sculptures in Mosul Museum in northern Iraq by the jihadists of the Islamic State.

"This attack is more than a cultural tragedy, it is also a safety issue because it feeds bigotry, violent extremism and the conflict in Iraq," criticized the head of UNESCO Irina Bokova in her statement after the distribution of a video posted by the Islamic State group.
