Germany said that Europe's defense capability leaves much to be desired

February 16, (bbabo.net). Europe's defense capability leaves much to be desired. This was stated by the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) faction in the Bundestag, Rolf Mützenich, TASS reports.

“The spending of all European Union member countries in NATO has increased by 50% over the past 10 years,” said Rolf Mützenich. However, he noted that Germany has increased its military spending by 42% over 10 years and is now achieving the NATO defense spending target of 2% of GDP.

“Weapons imports into the EU tripled between 2018 and 2022. However, Europe’s defense capability leaves much to be desired,” stated Rolf Mützenich. In his opinion, participants in the discussion about “European nuclear weapons” are losing sight of the real problems that should be addressed.

“If we want to have a serious discussion about the independence of European security, then we should talk about increasing the efficiency of European defense spending, consolidation and synergy of military budgets. There is great potential here, even opportunities for savings,” the faction leader is convinced.
