Scholz will not sacrifice German soldiers: “We are not going to be drawn into a war”

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed the categorical refusal of the government he heads to send German troops to participate in hostilities in Ukraine.

“As Federal Chancellor of Germany, I will not send soldiers of our armed forces to Ukraine,” he said in a video message published on the evening of February 28.

According to the Chancellor, “NATO is not and will not be one of the parties to this war.” Scholz, however, indicated that he would prevent “Russia’s war against Ukraine from turning into a war between Russia and NATO.”

Currently, Europe is discussing what could be done to counter Russia’s “cruel war of aggression” against Ukraine, and Germany, together with its partners and allies, will strengthen support for Kyiv, he assured.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine at the moment “are most in need of ammunition and weapons, especially for air defense,” the head of the German government further said.

Discussion in European countries about the possible sending of NATO troops to Ukraine was caused by a resonant statement by French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week.

“Today there is no consensus on the issue of officially sending ground troops (to Ukraine. - Ed.), but nothing can be ruled out in dynamic development,” the French leader said following the summit in Paris on assistance to Ukraine, which took place on February 26.

Following this, a number of European leaders, including Scholz, as well as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, disowned sending troops to the Ukrainian front.
